~ Raggedy Look-Alikes ~
Back in the 1930's, a popular illustrator's Raggedy-ish characters were featured in books published by Saalfield Publishing Co., a competitor of Whitman books, located in Akron, Ohio.
It is thought that Saalfield was so taken with her work that some stories appeared to have been written by a variety of authors of the day, in an effort to use some of her pre-existing illustrations. Puzzles and paper dolls were also created from her characters.
There was one 14" doll made from oil-cloth, that some think was made by Georgene in the likeness of Rags, though it had no company markings.(shown below)
